Hooray for Herps!

 

Legacy, Inc., have partnered with the Environmental Education Association of Alabama (EEAA) and ALAPARC to provide six member workshops around the state of Alabama focused on Reptile and Amphibians. The first workshop will take place this spring at the Solon Dixon Forestry Education Center in Andalusia, Alabama on Saturday, March 13, 2010. This workshop, which starts at 9:00 am and ends at 2:30 pm, includes content information and current research in the region from a Herpetologist, hands-on experience with live animals, and classroom activities relating to the animals, habitat and conservation.  Lunch will be provided for all workshop participants. After the workshop, teachers may choose to participate in the optional field trip looking for these incredible animals.

Each teacher will receive Learning through Legacy: Alabama's Environmental Education Guide for their grade level, Legacy’s WaterSource Book, Peterson’s Field Guide to Reptiles and Amphibians, Hands-on Herpetology, many posters from Legacy, and Wildlife organizations. A CD with resources-including the PowerPoint presentation of Reptiles and Amphibians in Alabama, and a CD of Alabama Frog and Toad calls.

To register for this first Hooray for Herps! Workshop, send your name, address, phone number,
e-mail,
and school and grade level or environmental/science center and grade level grouping (K-2, 3-5, 6-8 or 9-12), and a $15 check to Legacy to hold your place. When you show up for the workshop, your check will be returned if you are a member of EEAA. If you are not a member, the check will cover a one-year EEAA membership. Space is limited and the deadline to register for this exciting workshop is March 10, 2010.

Lodging is available at the Solon Dixon Forestry Center to make reservations please call Teresa Cannon or Joel Martin at 334-222-7779 reservations need to be made by March 5th if you are planning to stay on site.
